Anesthesia
Oral and Maxillofacial surgery requires training in anesthesia after graduation from dental school and several additional years of hospital-based surgical training. Dr. Khayat's surgical staff are experienced Oral and Maxillofacial surgical assistants, who assist in administration of conscious IV sedation, general anesthesia, and surgery. All staff are CPR certified.
What Types of Anesthesia Are There?
Anesthesia can be administered locally, intravenously, or by inhalation and consists of an administration of medications the effects of which are listed below:
| • |
Local – this numbs an area of your body, and you are able to stay awake and aware of what is happening. |
| • |
Conscious Sedation – this is a mild sedative to relax you. You stay awake, but may not remember the procedure afterwards. |
| • |
General Anesthesia – allows you to be unconscious (fall asleep) during your procedure. You should not feel any pain during your procedure. |

We will also:
